Danse Macabre show in Belfast this Thursday
July 17 2010

Belfast here I come! I am so psyched for this show and workshop, not to mention some rainy jacket weather. Hope to meet some new Northern Ireland pals at the show. Above is the beginning of the 12 foot long mural piece i've made for the show. Here's all the news that's fit to print, for more info check www.catalystarts.org.uk

Danse Macabre
'The dance of death unites all dancing to the grave’
22nd July – 13th August 2010
Opening 6-9pm Thursday 22nd July 2010.
Catalyst Arts will host a 4 week project, “Danse Macabre,” celebrating the collaborative nature of visual arts and music. The gallery exhibition features Heather Gabel, Martha Colburn, Helen McDonnell & Hornby, whose distinctive dark aesthetics each draw influence from punk rock genres through a diversity of mediums from sculpture and film to collage and tattoo illustration.
The project will also stage off site collaborative performances between Irish musicians Logikparty and US based artist Martha Colburn, and workshops led by Heather Gabel offering participants the opportunity to create their own music and sleeve artwork.
Through these events Catalyst hopes to offer the public a more interactive experience within a gallery context, and to encourage multidisciplinary engagement between various art forms.
Events:
Martha Colburn (16mm film visuals) performing with Logikparty (Dublin based No-Wave band).

Coming soon to a lucky wall near you...
April 8 2010

She's here!!! Everyone's been asking for this and I could hold out no longer! These are 18"x24" silkscreened prints, a limited edition of 50. Does it bug you guys that everything I make and sell here is always limited edition? Do you ever feel like "Get over it! Make an unlimited, infinite amount already! " Well, it's not going to happen so get used to it...besides , how cool are you feeling when you can say you got one when all your friends are pining after them long after they're gone? Pretty cool I'd imagine. See, it's all for you. I'm doing this all for you. And now I kind of feel like you owe me because this print turned out so fantastic. In the famous words of Janet Jackson (Miss.Jackson if your nasty) "What have you done for me lately?" Well, I know what you've done, you've bought this print! Nicely done fine sirs and ladies.
Show Opening March 13th at Parlor Gallery
March 12 2010
I am showing three new pieces in the group show "Dark and Lovely" opening tomorrow night at Parlor Gallery in Asbury Park, NJ. It's a Victorian (read: GOTH!!!) themed show so turn out the lights, put your favorite Joy Division record on repeat and get heavy with the eyeliner asap to get properly in the mood. This piece here is titled "The Empty Vessel" and is one of the three I made for the show. Two awesomely talented girls I've shown with before, Damarak the Destroyer and Chrissy Piper, are also in this one. You can find all the pertinent details at www.parlor-gallery.com
I am so stoked on these new shirts!!!
March 1 2010

I am not an exclamation pointer but I am so excited about these I cannot help myself here! 3 new designs I am going to wear myself, I never wear my own stuff but I'm making exceptions for these. The designs coupled with the killer Alternative Apparel shirts are too powerful for me to resist. Sound braggy? Tough. I'm so into them. I hope you guys like them too, but if you do, hurry and get yours because I only made 24 of each.
Tears of Joy
February 22 2010
Here is a sneak peek of one piece I am showing at the Dark and Lovely show at Parlor Gallery this March. Stay tuned for details...in the meantime, get ready to put your money where your pretty little mouth is because the new shirts are finished. I should have them in my paws by the end of the week which equals you wearing one by next week. There are three new heartbreakingly awesome designs guaranteed to worm their way into that most coveted by all of your other shirts category...the "my favorite t shirt" spot.
I'm baaack...(in black).
January 29 2010
Did you guys miss me out in cyberspace? I've had my hands full of the cutest baby girl you've never seen, but trust me on this one, she is a peach! Anyhow, she is also a regular time bandit and has been stealing all mine for the last 3 months but never fear, I've managed to eek out a few new pieces, including this little number here. There is some crafty new stuff in the etsy store, my favorites to date actually, and I'm working on even more which I'll be adding this weekend. I'll be showing some work in a group show at Parlor Gallery in NJ this March and again in another group show at Cult Status in Minneapolis in April. I just marked down the remaining shirts left in the store, there are like 5 left so scoop 'em up so I can get the next batch going! There are only 1 each of the show posters left too so hop to it!
The Craft-o-Rama Continues!
October 9 2009
I just added some new treats to the etsy store! Check them out at www.heathergabel.etsy.com, the mirror shown here is one of them. I just moved and am finally settling back in the zone artwise so be on the lookout for a new series I'm working on that will be up here soon. There are still massive sales on in the store and an LA show in the works for early next year so stay tuned.
Hey Ladies...
September 21 2009

Get these shirts! The men's sizes are nearly sold out but you gals have been slacking. I still have a good amount of girls sizes so hop to it. Do you really want to be out cool-shirted by your guy friends? How embarrassing...
Change Your Shirt Time Again!
August 13 2009

Check out these new digs up in the store now. All shirts are limited edition of 40 and are moving fast so shake a leg! And there are just 36 tote-ally awesome tote bags (sorry, I couldn't resist). But, seriously folks, I'm really excited about these and I hope you like them too.
Bric-a-Brac Attack! Sneak peak at some new things in my etsy store.
July 21 2009

I am a maniac crafter on the loose. Seriously, I cannot be stopped. I see crafty avenues unfolding before me at every turn, and simply don't posses the willpower to say "No, I'm working on something else right now. You'll have to wait to be transformed from the blase thrift store item that you currently are until a later date when I am ready to transform you." I just don't have the heart to tell them no. Anyhow, this works out well for everyone else as there is a seemingly endless supply of incredibly affordable, one of a kind, "vintage meets present day me" items in the marketplace for your viewing and collecting pleasure. These are only a few of the new ones I just added to my etsy store. Go to http://heathergabel.etsy.com/ to see the rest.
Summer Sale Blowout! Make way for new Shirts Coming Soon.
July 12 2009
People! I need help to make way for the next line of shirts currently in the works. Here is one of the designs coming soon. There are a nominal amount of items on the endangered species list left from the last run (about 5 shirts and 1 hoody) that are dead set on joining their friends on the extinct list, so, to aid them in this most noble endeavor, I am offering them at rock bottom prices. In fact, prints and paintings have been marked down dramatically as well in an effort to make room for all the new goods I've been readying for you. There are 2 new prints up in the store now, lovelies really, ready and waiting to accept your everlasting admiration and there's plenty more to come once these last few final cobwebs get cleared from the virtual attic...
Oh Say Can You Screen! Silkscreen art show at Asbury Lanes opens July 4th.
July 3 2009
Tomorrow night at Asbury Lanes, art show opening and dance party! Starts at 8pm. These are the 2 brand new, limited edition silkscreened prints I'm showing, plus the last collaboration I did with Horsebites (Snakeharmer...you can see it in my store) will be up too. He did a bitching new print for the show as well. It should be really fun for a lot of reasons, here is an impromptu list to further convince you: bowling, dancing, drinks, killer snacks, and oh yeah, lots of fabulous all screen prints to visually knock your socks off...only, please wear socks when you bowl. You can get more info on the Lanes at www.asburylanes.com but here is the address and phone number. 209 4th Ave, Asbury Park NJ 732.776.6160. They are also available for sale in the store now!
The Girls of Summer are here!
June 19 2009
These darlings are the fantasy girls of my bizarro summer dreams. In other words, if I were a teenage boy, these would be the girls I followed around, secretly pining for, all summer vacation long. They'd be replaced with more suitable crushes come fall, like the new girl in study hall, but for the summer they would be perfect and all mine. Amazing beauties like the pearl diver (who wouldn't fall for a deep sea diver with a knife at her throat?), the magician's lovely assistant (post failed illusion and still smiling), the forever unattainable 2 headed girl next door who shoots lasers from both her left eyes, the silent movie star who spent the entire summer pouting in an orange blossom hat and the secret assasin bullet bride! I realize it's time to grow up and put these childish notions to rest and am offering them for sale in the store now so that they can be yours for a lifetime instead of just one steamy dreamy summer.
Heaven's to Etsy!
June 5 2009
Folks, I've opened a store on etsy for my "craftier" itmes (ie. things that I wouldn't necessarily put in a gallery show but that are awesome in their own crafty right). I will always post something here for those interested in this type of work so that you'll know when there's new pieces going up in that store. These decorative vintage bird trays are the first items I'm adding, yeah, I'm still on a bird kick...take a closer look at heathergabel.etsy.com
Most of the pieces shown here are up, those that aren't yet will be soon.
Hook a Mother UP!
April 25 2009
How about this Mother's Day you ditch the tired flowers routine and give her something really cool? Seriously folks, it's time to step it up a notch. Both nostalgic and edgey, these little treasures are a fitting nod to your fabulously wonderful mother ...not to mention her unbeatable bric a brac collection!
Check the store for more info and details. You can thank me later when you've lied and told your mom that you made them and she is utterly overcome by 1. how far you've come since finger painting and 2. what a little treasure you are. It's cool, I won't spill the beans.

Brand new limited edition line of shirts plus a hoody!
April 13 2009
You need a new t shirt because all of yours are nasty. Sorry, but it's true. So check out the 4 new t shirts and hoody available in the store now...unless of course you are, for some inexplicable reason, opposed to evolving into the coolest t shirt/hoody having version of yourself ever. Based on some of my most popular pieces (Miss.Manners, Litterbug and Mom) as well as a couple of new designs, these represent the first in a series of limited edition garments that I'll be releasing over the next few years. There are only 24 of each and they are all available exclusively on this site. Suggestions for the next run? Email me which pieces you'd most like to own in this totally affordable, incredibly wearable format.

A brief and vaguely informative 2009 overview.
February 13 2009
So here's the plan for shows this year...currently planning a show in Mexico City with a possible Cancun add on (spring break anyone?!). I'm in a group show this April in Jersey City (will post the full info on that show soon) and am hammering out the dates in the following cities: NYC, Asbury Park, Denver and Chicago. I'm working on the pieces for the Mexico City show now and will have some up in the new work section within the next couple of days. I'm also planning to co-curate a show with Anna Cerniglia (curator at South Union Arts and allrise gallery, both in Chicago) which I'm really excited about. I also just added a bunch of new pieces to the store and am about to launch a new group of limited edition shirts based loosely on my most popular paintings. The piece to the left is for another collaboration with pal Horsebites for a limited edition print we're doing as a contribution to the Harvest of Hope benefit festival here in St.Augustine this March. Stay tuned for more exciting news to come!

Sneak Peek...
October 20 2008
Here's the first piece I made for the upcoming show at allrise gallery this friday in Chicago. I'm still putting the finishing touches on it but you get the idea. Check the article below this for all the show details. Hope to see you there!
Calling all Chicagoans!
October 4 2008

Chicago art show Friday October 24th at allrise gallery. As a part of the gallery's ongoing Weekend Fling Exhibition Series this show features work by artists Heather Gabel (me! currently from nowhere in particular), Ed Trask (Richmond,VA), Damara the Destroyer (Chicago,IL) and Michael Pajon (Chicago, IL). The show will run from October 24th through October 26th and is located at 1370 W. Grand Ave. The opening is Friday October 24th from 7-10 pm. Gallery hours for Saturday and Sunday are 11-6 pm. For more info check the gallery's website www.allrisegallery.com or call 312 226 9292. This promises to be a really great show, the diversity of the work should make it a real treat. Ed does amazing oil paintings of land/cityscapes. Damara makes collages and drawings of beautiful fantastical situations, very unique stuff, and Micheal's piece is reminiscent of Henry Darger's fantasyland collages but with his own twist, incorporating nostalgic Americana imagery. And I'm very excited about the pieces I'm working on for the show. It's a new series, musing on ladies/natural selection and various phenomenons involving the two. I can't wait to see them finished side by side altogether at the show. All of us (the artists) are really excited to be showing our work together and will be present at the opening so please come and see what we've created for your viewing pleasure!
